In-Patient Services

Our highly-qualified and caring team of over 30 nurses provides family centered care from newborn to geriatric patients. As a patient you will receive 24-hour individualized care. Working with your physician our caring staff will care for you with skill and compassion. Patient education is ongoing throughout each patient's stay. Before you go home, discharge planning consultation is provided to you. Our Discharge Planner will ensure that while you’re in the hospital and after your hospital stay, different care options are recognized, discussed with you and coordinated.

Our medical/surgical/critical care area has state-of-the-art equipment including ventilator support and cardiac monitoring equipment. The nurse to patient ratio gives you the individualized and intensive treatment you need from nurses and medical staff trained in specialized monitoring techniques, patient assessment skills and administration of special medication like thrombolytic therapy or “clot busters” that reduce heart damage and accelerate recovery. Patients’ families receive special care and emotional support from our nurses and can use a comfortably furnished waiting area or chapel.

Advance Care Planning

Advance care planning helps anyone, healthy or ill, communicate their wishes for medical treatment.

At any age, a medical crisis could leave someone too ill to make their own medical decisions. An advance care plan provides information to others about your wishes in case illness or injury prevents you from telling them yourself.

Advance Care Planning is a Process of:

  • Clarifying your values and health care goals
  • Understanding your treatment options
  • Weighing your options about what kind of care and treatment you would want or not want
  • Making decisions about whether you want to appoint a health care agent or complete a health care directive
  • Communicating your wishes in writing in a document called an advance directive or health care directive.

What do I need to include?

Include all the medications you take such as pills, inhalers, eye drops, patches, injections, creams, and so on. Also include the medications you buy over the counter such as vitamins, eye drops, creams, herbal supplements, patches, inhalers, insulin, etc.

Bedside Rounding

At Olivia Hospital & Clinics, we conduct Bedside Report to keep you better informed about your plan of care, medications, tests, and progress while you are here. This report involves your nurse providing report at your bedside at each shift change with you and your new nurse.

Things to discuss with your nurse before report:

  • Visitors: If you have visitors at the time of Bedside Report, you will decide if they should be present during report.
  • Sleeping: If you are sleeping at change of shift, a nurse will “check” on you but not wake you up – unless you have asked us to wake you for report.

We know that Bedside Report will benefit you by keeping you better informed of your condition and involved in your care. It allows us to maintain the high quality of care that you expect as a patient at Olivia Hospital & Clinics.

Interdisciplinary Rounds

Interdisciplinary rounds allow for real-time, in-person exchanges of information, making the goals and plan of care for each patient clear to all members of the team such as; nursing, dietary, nutrition, therapy services, discharge coordinators and pharmacy. The daily multidisciplinary rounds have provided a formal and organized approach to patient care, ensuring the multidisciplinary team and the patient/family unit receive consistent and accurate information, increasing the efficiency and safety of the patient’s care.

Discussions may include patient’s progress, procedures and tests ordered; discharge planning; care bundles; core measures; nutrition; weaning progress; and skin integrity. Additional topics may include possible drug interactions, glucose control, sedation, pain medication, line needs and assessment for removal, information needs of staff and family, and ethical issues.
